かちあう【かち合う】

clash 《with…》; conflict 《with…》; collide 《with…》; coincide 《with…》; fall (together) 《on…》.

●土曜日に会合が 2 つかち合った. On Saturday two meetings coincided [fell together].

・祝日と土曜がかち合っても月曜が休みにならない. Should a holiday fall on a Saturday, the following Monday isn't a day off.

・今度の集会は期末試験とちょうどかち合ってしまった. The next meeting happens to coincide [conflict, clash] with the term-end examination.

・授業とかち合って特別講演に出られなかった. I could not attend the special lecture, as it clashed with a regular class.

・友人の結婚式が 2 つかち合った. Two of my friends' weddings fell on the same day. | There was a clash when two of my friends both got married on the same day.

・どうやら彼のお目当てと私のとがかち合っているらしい. It seems that his aims and mine conflict [he and I both have our eyes on the same thing].
